DeBakey High School for Health Professions, my experience has been both challenging and rewarding. The best part has been the opportunity to immerse myself in a rigorous academic environment focused on health sciences. I've enjoyed engaging with passionate peers and dedicated teachers who share my interests and aspirations. However, the workload can be overwhelming at times, balancing demanding coursework with extracurricular activities. The pressure to excel academically while navigating the transition to high school has been a significant challenge. One aspect I'd like to see change is the availability of support services for students struggling with stress and mental health issues. While the school prioritizes academic excellence, there could be more resources dedicated to promoting student well-being and providing coping mechanisms for stress management.... While this is great to promote college readiness and academic rigor for students, this extensive academic pressure has been known to take a great mental toll on many of its students. However, Seven Lakes has an amazing faculty, with most teachers going above and beyond to ensure their students have the best learning environment available to them. Furthermore, school spirit is very prevalent due to the emphasis on and success of many of our sports teams: we have dress up days and pep rallies before many of our big games. The facilities are extremely up to date, with the campus constantly being updated, and students are given access to top of the line materials and technology. There are also a wide variety of clubs and organizations to be a part of, which allows many students to find a place they feel comfortable in, and make lifelong friends.... Given a wide variety and highly advanced curriculum, students are able to excel greatly in academics. While taking college-level core classes and exploring beyond my interests through electives, I have the freedom to craft my early education that establishes a base for my specified career interests in the future. Given the academic resources, students also gain lots of support from teachers and classmates, constantly put within an environment that pushes students to excel. Throughout my high school experience, I have seeked guidance from multiple teachers who helped me further understand classroom contents and motivate me. As a student who went there, I had multiple opportunities and help to get ahead in college level courses at a high school level with balancing out extra curricular activities. I was involved in national honor society, softball, and FFA while taking part in high level classes. The only negative Tomball Memorial falls back on is their focus on insignificant priorities. It definitely has its challenges because of how diverse and competitive the environment is. There are more than 1000 students per grade, so eligibility for sports team, clubs, and high ranks is limited. This means that to stand out here, a student really has to go above and beyond in their efforts of studying, athletics, and community leadership. While difficult, I think it is possible to stand out in a school full of hardworking and dedicated students. Additionally, TWHS has a mainly high income student body. This means that the school provides great resources like a large library, new technology, and many textbooks for annual use. The parents are also very involved for providing students with great opportunities. The sport teams get lots of funding, so the equipment to train with is good. The school offers rigorous AP and immersive classes/programs with supportive teachers and staff, allowing a positive learning environment. While the large student body and competitive atmosphere can be overwhelming, they also provide numerous social and growth opportunities. The worst of Dulles High School would be at times, lacking teachers within their fields of performance and energy, terrible cafeteria food, and mediocre school unity/spirit. What I would like to see changed is more energetic, uplifting activities conducted by the school to increase student satisfaction/motivation on attendance throughout the days. Attending high school alongside thousands of other students who are of different ethnic backgrounds has made me take pride in my culture and not worry about being forced to assimilate into what might be considered the standard American identity. Furthermore, our campus has countless active clubs, all of which provide opportunities for students to find others with similar interests. I also believe that we have strong academics, seeing as how our school is quite competitive and seeks to challenge its students through the vast amount of advanced classes offered here. However, with that said, I do believe we struggle with our college-readiness factors. The counselors present on campus do not provide students with helpful advice on classes or their future careers, which is quite problematic....
