Bryson DeChambeau logo, explained: Why golfer is wearing LIV Golf team shirt, hat during U.S. Open | Sporting News (2024)

As with many sports, golf has become an increasingly commercialized game. Players' kits are littered not with embroidery paying homage to the sport itself but rather to their sponsors.

Tiger Woods, Jake Knapp and Cameron Young are among the PGA Tour players participants who have drawn attention not only for their short game but also for the emblems that cover their gear. Each player dons an insignia affiliated with a brand — Taylor Made, the NHL's Anaheim Ducks and MLB, respectively.

Bryson DeChambeau's outfits have caught similar glares. But he's attracted such looks for an entirely different reason. The logo he wears on his hat — a skull resting atop of two crushed golf tees — is a stark contrast to the simple prints that reside on his counterparts' chest plates.

With that, here's what you need to know about DeChambeau's eye-catching coat of arms.

Bryson DeChambeau hat logo, LIV Golf team

The logo DeChambeau has sported so proudly belongs to the Crushers, the LIV Golf team he represents. He's been a part of the side ever since swapping the PGA Tour for the Saudi-backed league in 2022, exchanging swings alongside fellow veterans Paul Casey, Charles Howell III and Anirban Lahiri. The Crushers, captained by DeChambeau, captured the LIV Golf League team title last season.

DeChambeau's contract with LIV makes him a co-owner of the Crushers. It also requires him to wear his team's logo whenever he graces a course.

Given the value of DeChambeau's LIV deal — he famously told a journalist that rumors of a$125 million contract offer with LIV were"a little low"— the 30-year-old right-hander certainly is incentivized to sport his team's striking crest.

The era of "BD" — a time when DeChambeau wore shirts adorned with the his silhouette or his monogram, BD — is over. The Crushers are here in 2024. They could be around for the long run, too.

Bryson DeChambeau sponsors

Despite being one of golf's highest-profile names, DeChambeau finds himself in limbo on the advertising circuit.

He famously lost his Rocket Mortgage sponsorship after inking his deal with LIV. He also drew outrage from 9/11 Families United, an organization consisting of family members killed in the terrorist attacks, which penned a scathing statement decrying DeChambeau and other LIV members for joining the organization.

DeChambeau also was previously linked with club manufacturer Cobra-Puma, although his contract with the company expiredat the end of 2022.

Shortly thereafter, he agreed to a deal withAvoda Golf. The company has recently gotten into the business of producing its clubs with 3-D printers, a technique that has become all the more alluring given DeChambeau's success in the opening rounds of the Masters.

DeChambeau followed that success up with a solid showing at the PGA Championship, so they have to be happy they inked "The Scientist" to an endorsem*nt deal.
