The Chase Sapphire Reserve® offers several premium travel benefits, but one popular perk is going away later this year. According to online reports, cardholders will no longer be able to take advantage of the Priority Pass Select restaurant benefit starting July 2024.

Chase is the third card issuer to remove the perk from its premium credit card, following American Express in 2019 and Capital One in 2023. Here’s what to know about the perk and what this change means for cardholders.

About the Priority Pass Restaurant Benefit

As a Chase Sapphire Reserve® cardholder, you get a complimentary Priority Pass Select membership, which offers access to more than 1,300 airport lounges worldwide, along with other experiences.

For now, that includes a dining credit at select airport restaurants. An eligible member and a guest can both receive up to $28 in credits toward eligible menu items, for a total of $56.

But sadly, Chase announced that the perk is going away soon with the following note on cardholder statements:

“As of July 1, 2024, you will no longer have access to restaurants, cafes, and markets participating in the Priority Pass Select network as part of the Priority Pass Select™ Benefit associated with your card. Access to Priority Pass Select’s network of lounges and other select airport experiences is not impacted by this update.”

The change also applies to the JP Morgan Reserve Card* and The Ritz-Carlton™ Credit Card*, neither of which is widely available.

With only roughly 30 restaurants at select U.S. airports, many Sapphire Reserve cardholders may have never had the chance to use the benefit. But for those who live near or frequently travel through airports with participating restaurants, the change could be a major loss of value.

Which Credit Cards Still Offer Priority Pass Restaurant Access?

If losing the Priority Pass restaurant benefit would have a significant impact on you, it could still make sense to hold onto the Sapphire Reserve for its flexible $300 travel credit, 50% bonus value on travel redemptions through Chase Travel℠ and other solid perks.

However, if you want a credit card that isn’t expected to remove Priority Pass restaurant access, here are a few options to consider:

  • Capital One Venture X Business*
  • Bank of America® Premium Rewards® Elite credit card*
  • UBS Visa Infinite Credit Card*

Before you apply for another credit card however, consider all of the card’s features and the annual fee to ensure that it’s a good fit for you based on your spending and travel habits.

Bottom Line

The Chase Sapphire Reserve is the latest premium credit card to drop the Priority Pass restaurant benefit, but cardholders still have access to it for a few months. You can use the Priority Pass website or mobile app to find participating restaurants by airport.

If you’re a frequent user of the perk, it may be time to reevaluate the card’s value compared to its annual fee. While you may be tempted to switch to a card that still offers the benefit, take your time to evaluate all of your options to determine the best one for you.
