Queer Student Union (QSU) Club Meetings

Mondays and Thursdays | 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. | Winnet Student Life Building, Room S2-08
Join the QSU on Tuesdays and Thursdays for club meetings for LGBTQ+ students run by LGBTQ+ students. Weekly meetings foster community, security and positivity for LGBTQ+ students on campus. Activities will vary weekly.Get involved by attending one or both of the weekly club meetings!

Trans and Gender Nonconforming Faculty and Staff Support Group

This is a monthly drop-in social support group for trans and gender nonconforming faculty and staff. Get support, learn how to advocate for yourself and share your experiences with others who undestand. Topics will vary from month to month.

"Paris Is Burning" Documentary Screening

Before you attend next week's event, "Nostalgia: A Journey into Philadelphia’s House Ballroom Scene," come see the documentary that brought ballroom culture into the national spotlight! Filmed in the late 80s, this film chronicles lives of Black, Latine, Queer and Trans members of several prominent "houses" in New York City's ballroom scene, and includes footage that takes you inside these elaborate balls. Sponsored by the Queer Student Union, MarcDavid LGBTQ Center and the Library.

Chat Over Coffee

Tuesday, February 27 | 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Career and Advanced Technology Center, First Floor Lobby
Join the Office of Student Engagement for Chat Over Coffee, a monthly series featuring guest departments that is designed to encourage students to learn more about support services at the College while engaging with peers in a social setting. On Feb. 27, learn about the MarcDavid LGBTQ Center and explore all of the the in-person and online ways you can get involved!

Nostalgia: A Journey Into Philadelphia's House Ballroom Scene

Thursday, February 29 | 6 to 8 p.m. | Pavilion Building, Klein Cube
You may have heard of ballroom culture from TV shows like "Pose" or "Legendary," but did you know Philadelphia currently has a thriving ballroom scene of its own? Join Jacen Bowman, a celebrity makeup artist and Philadelphia's legendary ballroom icon, to learn about the history of ballroom. You'll even get a taste of what it's like to attend an actual ball!

Jacen is a beauty contributor for FOX 29's "Good Day Philadelphia" morning show, and has been featured in publications that include Teen Vogue, Uptown MagazineandVibe. He was the lead makeup artist for the Oscar-nominated film "I am Not Your Negro," and has worked for several cosmetic brands, including MAC Cosmetics, Laura Geller, Smashbox and Kevyn Aucoin. Currently he is the beauty editor for several online magazines, and works behind-the-scenes on reality series like "Love and Hip-Hop," "Real Housewives" and several runway shows. You may also recognize him from season two of "Legendary" on Max!

Queer Performance: How to Be a Gender Cannibal

Monday, March 18 | 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. | Bonnell Building, Black Box Theater
John Jarboe (she/her), the artistic director of the Bearded Ladies Cabaret, will lead a workshop that will teach you the tools and tactics for creating and sharing a live performance. Jarboe, a transfemme drag performer, recently debuted a piece at FringeArts and Under the Radar called "Rose: You Are Who You Eat," which explores their gender journey through the lens of cannibalism and a vanishing twin. Jarboe will draw on the approaches they developed for this piece and throughout their 13 years as the founding leader of the Bearded Ladies.Come prepared to write, move and play, bring ideas of pieces you are working on or questions about creation for theater and film.

Queer Performance: Variety Show

One week prior to this event, John Jarboe (she/her), the artistic director of the Bearded Ladies Cabaret, led our performers through a workshop that taught them the the tools and tactics for creating and sharing a live performance. Now the attendees of that workshop are going to show us all what they've been working on! Join us in the Black Box Theater for an unforgettable evening of Queer performance art.
