You learn about the vastly different experiences of your peers and intellectual equals (my closest friends are from rural areas, whereas I am from suburbian purgatory). You learn to take care of yourself alongside your academics. But it is worth it, if you make it in. You walk out with so much respect and love for the family of peers you find. Your mind opens, your viewpoints change. This is a life-changing experience, and it comes with its drawbacks and difficulties. My orchestra class would play a piece in front of all high schoolers (middle schoolers had their own winter showcase). DSA was a school of diversity and held a variety of arts. My worst experience at DSA was seventh grade when a gas leak explosion occurred next to the middle school building on April 10, 2019.
