Home in the Apple TV app (2024)

Home in the Apple TV app (1)

The Home screen in the Apple TV app is the place to start watching movies, TV shows, Friday Night Baseball, and Major League Soccer matches when you subscribe to MLS Season Pass (not all content is available in all countries or regions). Find what you want to watch, add items to your Up Next list, or just start watching.

Note: Not all devices support on-device transactions, so you may not be able to buy, rent, or subscribe to shows or channels directly. However, you can sign in with your Apple ID to watch items you’ve already purchased, rented, or subscribed to on other devices.

Browse content

  1. Open the sidebar in the Apple TV app Home in the Apple TV app (2) on your smart TV, streaming device, or gaming console, then select Home.

The Up Next row displays content you’ve added to Up Next, including content you’ve started watching but haven’t finished.

  2. Scroll down to view recommended TV shows, movies, and events—including collections hand-picked by experts as well as dedicated categories based on your viewing history.

Sports events in progress display live scores (to manage sports notifications, see Adjust Apple TV app privacy settings).

  3. Select an item to see its rating, description, available channels, and purchase or rental information.

Browse channels

  1. Open the sidebar in the Apple TV app Home in the Apple TV app (3) on Apple TV app, then select Home.

  2. In the Home screen, navigate down to the row of channels, then navigate right to browse either of the following:

    • Channels: Directly access all of the channels you’ve subscribed to. These channels also appear in the sidebar.

    • More to Explore: Find new channels to subscribe to.

  3. Select an item to open it.

Play a movie, TV show, or sports event

When you find what you want to watch in the Apple TV app Home in the Apple TV app (4), select it, then do any of the following:

  • Play the item: Select Play. (The Play button is available for free content, content you’ve already purchased, or content on Apple TV channels you subscribe to.)

  • Subscribe to Apple TV+: Select the subscription button, then follow the onscreen instructions.

  • Subscribe to an Apple TV channel: Select the subscription button, then follow the onscreen instructions.

  • Buy or rent a movie: Select Buy, or Rent, then select the option you want and confirm your purchase or rental. For details, see Pick a movie or TV show to watch.

  • Buy a TV show episode or season: Select Buy, then select the option you want and confirm your purchase. For details, see Pick a movie or TV show to watch.

  • Watch a sports event marked live: Select Watch to go directly to the event or Add to Up Next to add it to the Up Next row for watching later. When the event is complete, it no longer appears in Up Next.

Listen to live local radio during MLS matches or Friday Night Baseball games

  1. During playback, press the center or play button on the smart TV or device remote to show playback controls.

  2. Select the Audio Options button Home in the Apple TV app (5), then choose an audio track option from the pop-up menu:

    • TV: Play the audio commentary from the TV broadcast.

    • Local Radio, [away team, language]: Listen to the away team’s local radio broadcast while watching the game (this option is only available for Friday Night Baseball games).

    • Local Radio, [home team, language]: Listen to the home team’s radio broadcast while watching the match or game.

See what’s up next

The Up Next row displays content you’ve already started to watch or plan to watch.

  • In the Home screen of the Apple TV app Home in the Apple TV app (6), navigate to the Up Next row, then navigate left or right to see shows you’ve recently watched or added to Up Next.

Shows and movies appear in the order you’re most likely to want to watch them. For example, when a TV episode is finished, the next episode automatically appears in Up Next. And if you’ve already caught up on a show, whenever a new episode becomes available, it immediately shows up in the beginning of the Up Next row.

If you have a Mac, iPhone, or iPad and are signed in with the same Apple ID you use for the Apple TV app, your viewing progress and episode selection stay in sync in the Apple TV app on those devices. For example, you can start watching a show on your Apple TV app and finish watching it on iPad, or vice versa.

Add a movie or TV show to Up Next

  1. In the Apple TV app Home in the Apple TV app (7), select an item to see its rating, description, available channels, and purchase or rental information.

  2. Select Add to Up Next.

The Add to Up Next button changes to In Up Next, indicating that the item is added.

In the Apple TV app Home in the Apple TV app (8), do either of the following:

  • Navigate to an item in the Up Next row, press and hold the center button of the smart TV or device remote, then select Remove from Up Next.

  • If you’re viewing a page for an item you’ve added to Up Next but haven’t started watching, select In Up Next.

Start watching from Up Next

  • In the Home screen of the Apple TV app Home in the Apple TV app (9), highlight an item in the Up Next row, then press the center or play button of the smart TV or device remote.

If the item is not available to play immediately, follow the onscreen instructions.

Press the back button of the smart TV or device remote to see playback options.

Press the back button again to return to Home.
