As you play Final Fantasy 14, you’ll unlock the ability to dress your character up, while also keeping the good stats of high level gear. This is referred to as glamour.

How to unlock glamour in FFXIV

Glamouring allows you to use glamour prisms to project the appearance of a piece of equipment over the equipment you’re wearing, with some limitations. The gear you want to use the appearance of has to be at the same or a lower level than yours, and it must be for the same class or job. (So no, you cannot trick somebody into thinking you’re a level 80 Dragoon, when you’re really a level 30 White Mage.)

To unlock the ability to glamour, you need to be at least level 15 and be far enough in the main scenario quests to access Western Thanalan. In Vesper Bay, you’ll find a female NPC with an eccentrically colored outfit named Swyrgeim, who will give you the quest “If I Had a Glamour.”

Manually glamouring individual items

You can manually glamour single items by using the Cast Glamour skill. You can access that from the actions and traits menu. You can also open your character menu or inventory and select the gear you want to glamour and click “cast glamour.” Casting glamour costs one glamour prism per item.

How to use the glamour dresser and armoire to make glamour plates

You can find glamour dressers and armoires at each inn in the major cities like Ul’dah, Limsa Lominsa, Kugane, and the Crystarium. You can also find them inside your Grand Company barracks.

The glamour dresser, which can hold up to 800 items, is where you can put items you want to use for your outfits.
Gear from events, as well as some other specific gear, can go into the armoire, which helps you save some space in your dresser.

Using the dresser, you can make glamour plates, which allow you to cast glamour for an entire outfit at once, rather than one by one. Using a plate does not cost any prisms.

After setting the plate up at a dresser, you can access your plates at any time from your character menu to cast them. However, you can only cast glamour plates when you’re in a city or in a sanctuary (the safe area around big Aetherytes).

You can also link glamour plates to item sets, which allows for some extra fancy gear set making. By doing this, even if your Paladin and Gunbreaker share the same gear, you can give them different looks that will automatically update when you switch to that item set, as long as you’re in a town or sanctuary.

To do so, select the gear set button, the gear set you want to link, and “link to glamour plate.”
