Why is table tennis table so expensive? ›

If you look at it from the economic side, there are more buyers than sellers and wood and rubber are limited materials. So, naturally they don't come cheap. Also, it is expensive because people will want to buy no matter the price. Players are very touchy about their equipment - the beginners and semi-pros.

That is known as volley or “obstruction”, and it's an illegal shot in table tennis. If you do this, you lose the point. To make it easier to remember, let's put it like this: you are not allowed to hit the ball while it's on its way to bounce on the table.

The ball must first bounce on your side and then in your opponents. Your opponent must allow the ball to hit their side of the table before trying to return this. The ball must pass cleanly over the net – if it 'clips' the net and goes over, it is a 'let' and the serve is retaken.

“Hao Cho” means “good ball”. But “Hao” is the weak sound with an open mouth so in short, they say “Cho” after winning a good ball.

In this sense a player who is playing 6-8 hours a week should at least change their rubber once every couple of months.

If you make a mistake with your serve you do lose a point straight away. In Table Tennis you don't get a second chance with your serve. That is one of the reasons that it is important to practice your serves a lot during your training. It even happens at the Olympics sometimes.
