Just 1% of Brits will solve Lee Mack's tricky quiz show question (2024)
Only 1 per cent of people will be able to answer this tough question from Lee Mack's quiz show The 1% Club, which puts 100 contestants to the test with difficult logic-based questions
Viewers of Lee Mack's popular quiz show The 1% Club will no doubt know just how tough the questions can get, with 100 contestants quickly getting whittled down as things get progressively harder. The show, which asks 15 logic-inspired questions of increasing difficulty, begins with Lee asking a question that 90 per cent of people polled answered correctly.
He then proceeds to turn things up a notch, round after round, firing off questions that fewer and fewer of those polled were able to answer correctly, eventually resulting in a final hard-as-nails question, that only 1 per cent will likely get right. If answered correctly. then contestants could well secure a life-changing £100,000, but it really is easier said than done.
Many of those watching at home from the comfort of their sofa will no doubt fancy their chances at getting to the final round of The 1% Club, even as they watch those on the TV screen falter at the final hurdle. Now it's time to put your quiz skills to the test, with a question that just 1 per cent of people will have a shot at.
Ready? Take a look at the following question below, and think carefully about your answer:
3. Why is FACETIOUS the odd one out in this group of words?
EDUCATION TAMBOURINE FACETIOUS DISCOURAGE
Take your time and work it out at your own pace, safe in the knowledge that there are at least no TV cameras about to capture your struggle. This puzzle will likely appeal to those with a gift for words, so it's time for any champion Scrabble players to draw from their extensive knowledge of the English language.
Don't worry if this takes you a bit longer than the questions you're able to fire off with ease at your local pub quiz. Remember, this is a question that will pretty much bamboozle everyone unless you've got an extraordinarily sharp mind for logic and puzzle-solving.
When you're ready, check out the following answer below:
In case you haven't spotted the pattern yet, then each of these four words contain five vowels each, however, FACETIOUS is the only one where the vowels are in alphabetical order. It really does feel so very obvious once you see it, but remember practice makes perfect, especially when it comes to making it into the 1 per cent.

The 1% Club is a British game show that has aired on ITV1 since 9 April 2022, and is hosted by Lee Mack. The show is styled as an IQ test and the questions are not based on general knowledge, like many shows, but on "logic and common sense". The top prize achievable is £100,000.
One of the remaining contestants, Mitel, noticed that the sentence is a palindrome — it reads the same backwards as forwards — and therefore the answer is "worm". He left the show with the £99,000 jackpot.
Hillal, 30, from Crewe, Cheshire responded: "I've put Y. So it's seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years." "Let's have a look, for £98,000," said Lee, before it emerged that she was, in fact, correct, meaning she won the life-changing amount.
A consistent ratings winner for ITV, the show returned for a third series earlier this year but, despite its popularity, it has been cancelled this weekend, along with the latest episode of Britain's Got Talent, as channel execs avoid a ratings clash with the Eurovision Song Contest, which will be airing on the BBC at ...
Ever wondered how clever you are? Well, Lee Mack's offering you a chance to find out! To win £100k, contestants must answer a question that only 1% of the UK get right.
Amrit's grandad is three times older than him. How old is Amrit?” An image beneath the question showed four gold balloons shaped in the numbers six, eight, seven and two. The correct answer to the question was that Amrit is 26 years old, making his grandfather 78.
The question read: "Whose mug belongs on the top shelf with the others?" and gave the players four options: ALF, SUE, MEG and BEN. The four mugs were beneath a top row which showed HAT, LOG, OLD and ROW written on four mugs.
Lee explained that the handle of the mugs formed a 'C', thus making the words CHAT, CLOG, COLD and CROW. So the answer to the 30% question meant ALF belonged on the top row because you could make CALF using the 'c' in front.
It turns out that the answer to the question was 111 - though many couldn't work out why that was the answer. One user said: "Still don't know the method for the answer of this as went off to quickly but said 111 now my family think I'm some genius."
