Is Nick and Charlie appropriate for 13 year olds? ›

Probably for Mature 14 year olds and up. It was really good. There was good stuff about how in a relationship you do have to speak up or neither of you will. I think a bit at the end is bad it has a bit of sex stuff I guess.

While promoting Loveless, Oseman opened up about being aromantic and asexual. Oseman uses she/her and they/them pronouns. Oseman announced that she was going on hiatus from Heartstopper in 2022 due to stress and mental health issues.

This Winter and Nick and Charlie are spin-off novellas from Solitaire and Heartstopper, but can still be read and enjoyed even if you haven't read those books.

I highly recommend that only kids 14+ should read it, due to the sensitivity of this topic, but definitely recommend. Unlike what Jane. C said, the book doesn't actually contain nude or graphic drawings. It just hints to the reader they are having sex.

Wholesome queer content for people of all ages to enjoy and potentially even learn some lessons in mutual respect. Be warned that the source material does get a little darker/more serious including themes regarding mental health (and so future seasons will likely include this).

He's shown to be extremely patient and understanding with Charlie as he recovers from his mental health issues. Due to being nearly two years older than Charlie, Nick has to worry about graduating and what university to go to.

Do you need to read Solitaire before Nick and Charlie? ›

Alex On Alice Oseman's website, it says that it does not matter. Chronologically, Solitaire is in the middle of volume 4 but any relevant info about Charlie is in Heartstopper as well so read them in any order.
