How many people went to NYC Pride? ›

The annual march attracts huge crowds from all over the country. There is an estimated 2 million people or more who attend this event every year, making it one of the largest, if not the largest, parade in the country.

The 2024 Pride March starts at 25th Street and Fifth Avenue near Madison Square Park in Manhattan. It then marches down Fifth Avenue, turns west onto 8th Street and continues on Christopher Street, where it passes by the Stonewall National Monument.

Organised by not-for-profit Pride in London, an estimated 500 LGBTQ+ community groups and businesses took part, comprising more than 32,000 people.

The NYC Pride March is free.

Some particularly important pride parades are funded by governments and corporate sponsors and promoted as major tourist attractions for the cities that host them. In some countries, some pride parades are now also called Pride Festivals.

Believing that more people would turn out for the march on a Sunday, and so as to mark the date of the start of the Stonewall uprising, the committee scheduled the date for the first march for Sunday, June 28, 1970.

Heritage of Pride, or NYC Pride, as it's also known, is the nonprofit group that organizes the march and all of the city's Pride Month events, along with year-round programs to improve the lives of LGBTQ New Yorkers.

This year's NYC Pride March will be no different and takes place on June 30 starting from 25th Street and 5th Avenue at 12 p.m. Pride Month celebrates all the achievements and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community. But why is it celebrated in June?
