The regulation states that students may only receive federal financial aid for ONE repetition of a previously passed course. These regulations prohibit the University from paying for a course that has been passed more than one time.

Federal regulations limit the number of times a student may repeat a course and receive federal financial aid for that course. Generally, you can receive the Federal Pell Grant when repeating the same course up to two times (if you've received a passing grade both times).

UCF students have two Grade Forgiveness opportunities in their Academic Career.

Regardless of whether the grade earned is better, worse, or the same as previous attempts, the grade earned in the last attempt, in a sequence of three or more attempts, will be the grade applied toward the degree and program requirements.

The Grade Forgiveness policy remains unchanged. You will not receive credit for both occurrences of the same class on your transcript. Only the last class will count towards your degree.

What happens if I repeat a course more than once? Regardless of the grade, a notation of “Unapproved Repeat” will show on your transcript if you repeat the same class more than once and you will not receive units or grade points.

If you fail a class, you may be responsible for paying back any aid you've received, or you might have further federal aid suspended until you meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).

What is Grade Forgiveness? When you earn a better grade the second or third time, you may be eligible for Grade Forgiveness, which allows you to replace the previous grade with the new one. This means that the old grade will be taken out of your GPA, however all attempts will still appear on your transcript.

The number of times a student can repeat a grade can be limited, often to just once, but this can vary by school district and individual school. In terms of college admissions, it's important to keep in mind that admissions committees look for progress and improvement.

The advisor can go over your options if you fail or pass the class. At most schools, for example, students with a failing grade can retake the same class to replace the grade on their transcript.

Refer to the Undergraduate Catalog for detailed information. If you choose to select courses for S/U grading, those selected courses with grades that are equivalent to A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+ or C grades will convert to a satisfactory (S) grade. Grades of C-, D+, D, D-, F or NC will convert to an unsatisfactory (U) grade.

Generally, if a student fails two consecutive semesters, the student is dismissed from the college. In other words, a college student can be kicked out for failing.

Your financial aid is calculated based on the credit hours in which you are enrolled, and attendance in these courses is mandatory in order to maintain eligibility.

A repeated course will result in a grade averaged and calculated in the GPA. If a student earns a grade of D, F, WU, or NC on the second attempt, the grades in all attempts will be averaged into their GPA.

Consult the web calendar at http://calendar.ucf.edu. Grade Forgiveness is limited to two courses. Students who transfer to UCF with their AA or articulated AS degree from a Florida public college and used grade forgiveness as part of the AA or articulated AS degree, will not be allowed to use grade forgiveness at UCF.

Grade Forgiveness Policy – Section 1003.4282(5), F.S.

Forgiveness policies for elective courses shall be limited to replacing a grade of “D” or “F,” or the equivalent of a grade of “D” or “F,” with a grade of “C” or higher, or the equivalent of a grade of “C” or higher, earned subsequently in another course.

Federal financial aid applicable for students cannot be applied for any previously passed course that has been repeated more than once. May repeat a failed course until it is passed with eligible federal financial aid.

As long as you are not taking a class more than 2 times, that class will still count in your credit hours for financial aid. So if you fail or withdraw from this class again, then it wont be used in your credit hour calculation for Pell.

Satisfactory academic progress is a requirement for maintaining eligibility for federal financial aid. Generally, your financial aid won't be affected if you drop a class by the add/drop deadline. Your financial aid will only be affected if you wait until after the deadline to drop a class.

If you fail a class, do you have to pay back your FAFSA financial aid? No, failing a class doesn't mean that you'll be forced to pay back any money that you received for that class. It could mean that you'll lose out on future money because you didn't perform well, though.
