You only get one rogue sword, so hold on to it. Also, the speed from it stacks, so once you get a high intelligence the sword becomes incredibly useful. Its ability is good though, so keep it despite its low damage.
A rogue already has proficiency in some martial weapons, namely hand crossbows, longswords, rapiers and shortswords. A rogue can use Sneak Attack with a finesse weapon or a ranged weapon.
