An engineer on Reddit created this fake CV, applied with it at a lot of big companies (including Reddit, Dropbox, Bolt and Robinhood) and got a 90% call back rate. What does this mean?A lot of people are missing the point, which is not to “fake it until you make it” or trying to get a job by lying, but to point out how many flaws are in the current automated recruitment processes and show how far can get you having big names listed as experience and adding some buzzwords. It does not even matter that most of the bullet points are complete nonsense, that a lot of the technologies listed don’t even exist, that there is a lot of contradictory information, not even the offensive remarks.I recommend reading the whole thread and maybe reflect a bit on it.https://lnkd.in/et5uDQBb

Can we just be real people for a moment here on LinkedIn???I mean seriously.. How many of you pointing out the “Microsoft Edge wasn’t until 2014”, or what ever the non important issue is..When this resume actually tells you about the likely hood (60%) of contracting herps while an Intern at Microsoft….. Lol!!Y’all are totally missing the point and replying how “this can’t be real”… No wonder we have to incorporate AI and bot’s into recruiting..This is CLEARLY a test, to prove a point.. And y’all replying in your superficial “Always have to be 100% professional on LinkedIn, can’t be human even for one sec” reply’s. 🙄🙄🙄🙄 Y’all amaze me! I feel like the people replying to this, asking if it’s real.. Are the reason companies have went to AI in the first place.Point proven Sebastian.. Point Proven lol..

Fraternity record for most vodka shots LOL!! I've been turned down for 203 jobs this year alone. And a few of them hired people who did not have half the experience or half the "stuff " i have on my resume. I've never lied on a resume or job application. Maybe I should, lol! I got callbacks once I started using ChatGPT for my CV and resume.

You know... I don't believe this is any different than ANY resume I am given... We have applicants peaco*cking, exaggerating, and giving us a document that has a very low likelihood of giving us any insights into if the person is a fit or not. Resumes are trash and the traditional hiring process is ready for some more innovative takes.

To be honest, in my experience as Tech recruiter I find that just the opposite is true in the current market, where software developers are like unicorns. A software developer can have a few months experience, have just completed a bootcamp or worked in his own company for 8 months and recruiters are on him! I am not a techy and have basic knowledge, but I have seen candidates being “basic” tech screened, who have two to three years experience on their CV, yet they fail at being asked to set-up an environment in for instance React. After long consideration (because you are deperate for a candidate) during the technical questions you try to ask anything that can make him sound remotely knowledgeable, so you can squeeze him through to the next round, but nothing. After the first basic coding exercise that he/she fails miserably, you give up and decide not to move forward as there is just nothing. Next week, I see he/ she has a new senior frontend developer position on LinkedIn. 🤦♀️

Well, that answers the question, 'How do I get more coding interviews?' Things we already knew: Lying is applauded by U.S. corporations, ATS is BS, and being an intern at Microsoft makes you more likely to contract an STD....

Big companies use automated cv triage with keyword matching to sift through the thousands of applicants they have daily.. news at 5. This wouldn’t be necessary if people would not choose “carpet bombing” as an approach to applying to jobs.

React was released (open sourced) in 2013. In the CV it's in 2011 😅

There was a similar experiment in academia. Someone automatically generated a paper and sent it to conferences or journals, got accepted. It’s an unavoidable consequence of all the noise ..

A very good and relatable article I would totally recommend reading to any engineer, designer or manager."While engineers hold the keys to feasibility and how the technology works, designers hold the keys to the customer/market need and principles toward a delightful user experience.""...We were speaking different languages at different levels about different needs. They had a ton of domain knowledge from years of experience. So, they would pull these obscure edge cases out of thin air in conversations as a sort of trump card to any reasonable design recommendation. It was frustrating and humbling. To them, UX was all about “looking pretty” (the visceral aspects of the user interface). Sigh. From my end, they saw UX as the lipstick they could just apply to the pigs they wanted to build. The in-road there was playing to their mindset. The architects fundamentally wanted to build a system that was robust, scalable, and easy to maintain quickly. The system being user-centered was the least important in their mind, and even that was generally boiled down to “looking nice,” which is not user-centered."

"HR departments are leaning too heavily on technology to weed out candidates, or they’re just not being creative enough in terms of how they consider applications and what types of people could be the right fit. Hiring software and the proliferation of platforms like Indeed, LinkedIn, and ZipRecruiter have made it super easy for employers to list countless positions and for jobseekers to send in countless résumés. The problem is, they’ve also made it super easy for those résumés to never be seen.Applicants think they’re talking to another human being when they write a description of their experiences [...] If they start explaining something at length or describe it the way they imagined it that doesn’t fit with what the system is trawling for, you have a possibility for a disconnect, literally because of word choice."
