The pretenses don't have to be false (or even pretenses): "Hey, I see you have an amazing collection of bikes posted on CL. I love bikes, and love looking at bikes and talking about bikes. I'm not in the market for anything right now, but I'd love to meet up some time and browse your collection"
There's a good chance he'd be up for it (as long as you avoid sounding like somebody who just wants to case his joint to rob it)
Yeah, I'm not sure I'd be up for that. Aside from seeing where and how he stores all those bikes, I can see them all on Craigslist already. Also, I know he catches grief online about taking over Craigslist like that, as well as his generally high prices, so I'm guessing he'd be wary of anything that seemed like an interview. Maybe not.
I did a search and found this written about him on ******:
So I've helped two friends buy bikes through that guy. He has a huge inventory in this garage. From what he told me he's sourcing bikes off craigslist in PA, CT, NJ for cheap then upselling them in the city. IMO he is selling at an inflated price, but he is traveling pretty far and does prep each bike to be road-ready. There's also a huge demand right now. (This was probably during Covid.) FWIW he is willing to negotiate. The last time I looked at bikes down at his place we took a lot of time trying out a few and I could tell he wanted to sell, so he was willing to come down 80 bucks.
Edit: It's interesting that you're not allowed to write ****** here. DOH!
