Mayor Jim Cahill (5th from R) welcomes delegation from Limerick County, Ireland to New BrunswickJust in time to celebrate the annual tree lighting and other events throughout the City, a delegation of friends from Limerick County, Ireland has arrived in New Brunswick. A day after their plane touched down in the United States, the group met with Mayor Jim Cahill in New Brunswick City Hall, where they were presented with a framed panoramic photo of the City skyline as a welcoming gift.
Thus far, the visit has included menu sampling at some of the City's restaurants and a walking tour of some of New Brunswick's top historic attractions and landmarks, including houses of worship and the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center, as well as Johnson & Johnson Headquarters and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
The delegation will be on hand to take part in the annual tree lighting celebration this evening as well as the Rutgers Big Chill 5K on Saturday.
The visit is the second recent interaction with New Brunswick's Sister Cities. In late October, six Junior Ambassadors and a chaperone from New Brunswick Middle School were joined by Michael Tublin, the City's Director of International Programs, for a visit to New Brunswick's two Sister Cities in Japan.
