Mark was born on October 8, 1954, in Hartford City, Indiana, the son of Kenneth Albert Phillips and Patricia Joan (Tucker) Housman. Mark worked for Indiana Glass in Dunkirk. Mark was a free-spirited man, who had a great personality and never met a stranger. He enjoyed the outdoors and walking his dog. Obituary Preview: Kyler McIntire, age 16, a resident of rural Pennville, passed away on Monday, November 22, 2021 at his home in rural Pennville.

Kyler was born on May 18, 2005 in Muncie, Indiana, the son of Dana McIntire and Erin Nemeth. He previously attended Yorktown High School where he played football and wrestled. He was currently a Sophom*ore at Jay County High School where he was a member of the wrestling team and J.R.O.T.C. Kyler enjoyed gaming and playing people from other countries, so much that he taught himself German so he could understand and speak to other gamers from Germany. Obituary Preview: Glenn Richard “Rick” Hambrock, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2021, following a long illness while in the company of his loving wife Carrie Sue (Wilson) Hambrock, whom he married on July 28, 2005.

Rick was born at Jay County Hospital on September 29, 1954 to Charles Angus and Arlene Marie (Bost) Hambrock. He graduated in 1972 from Redkey High School, although he attended Gov. I.P. Gray School for his first five years of education. Rick was the vocalist in many local bands for over 30 years as well as a founding member and office manager for the Jay County Genealogy Society.

In his teen years, he organized a men’s softball team, got permission to use the old Gov. I.P. Gray School property and organized the creation of a ball diamond, backstop and bleachers.

He is survived by his wife Carrie, children Cassie Aly and Mustafa (wife Tiffany nee Faulker) Aly, grandchildren, Layliana and Juhlaya Eldeeb, Jett Hunt and Sydney Aly, brother James “Jim” Hambrock, sister Cathy (Jim) Garringer, aunt Wanda (Bost) Branscum, many nieces, nephews, cousins and special grandniece Rylee Jo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert “Bob” Hambrock and Thomas “Tom” Hambrock and sister Sue Garinger.

Rick will be missed by his family, friends, fans and beloved dog Buster.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2021 from 12-2 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Services to celebrate Rick’s life will follow at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Bluff Point Cemetery, south of Portland.

Obituary Preview: Maxine Hartzell, age 95, a resident of Portland passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital on Saturday, November 20, 2021. She was retired from EPC in Geneva after more than 30 years. She was a member of the Ladies of the Portland Moose. She was very active, always working in her yard, and was still in a bowling league well into her 90’s.

Maxine Hartzell was born March 17, 1926 in Blackford County, Indiana the daughter of Henry Clay and Elsie (Enyart) McGahey. She was married on February 16, 1946 to Walter Hartzell. He passed away on July 1, 1976. Survivors Include: Son- Jerry Hartzell (wife-Helene), Portland,

She worked at Val’s Place in Redkey for many years. She was a former member of the Redkey American Legion Auxiliary and loved coaching softball in Redkey.

Dixie Toy was born August 14, 1956 in Hartford City, Indiana the daughter of Richard (Gene) Dorman and Lynette (Foreman) Harshbarger. Survivors Include: Her husband- Ellis Toy, Redkey, Indiana 2 Daughters- Lyndsey Enyart (husband-Sean), and Briggett Lykins (husband-Chad), both of Portland, Indiana Brother- Dick Dorman(wife-Debbie), Eaton, Indiana 13 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren

Obituary Preview: Randall Gale Fennig, 67, died in his home on the 11th of November, 2021.

He is survived by his wife, Toni; three children, Jesse, Kathryn (Richard), and David; one granddaughter, Lydia; two brothers, Barry (Pamela) and Stephen (Terry), as well as a number of nieces, nephews, their spouses, great nieces and nephews, and many beloved friends.

He farmed at many points throughout his life and loved it. He especially loved the family farm that he grew up on in Bryant, Indiana and returned to in his last decade of life to farm with his brothers.

However, his deepest vocation was to be a pastor. He served in that role both in the United States and in Africa, where he was a missionary for many years with his wife Toni. He had treasured friendships in the United States, Portugal, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Sierra Leone. He was patient and gentle. Over and over again throughout his life, people told him everything about themselves, sensing his profound empathy and trustworthiness.

But as beloved as he was by the people who knew him, the one that he loved most was Christ. He was a lifelong student of the Bible, a lifelong teacher at multiple parishes, and a mentor to many young people whom he helped along with utter humility and with joy. Randy would have counted as the greatest of his accomplishments that there were many people who saw Christ more clearly because of him.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Tuesday at the Westchester United Methodist Church, 4487 E. 400 N. Portland, Indiana.

Obituary Preview: James Davenport, age 75, a resident of Dunkirk passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at IU Health Ball Hospital in Muncie with his family by his side.

James was born December 10, 1945 in Cincinnati, Ohio the son of Belvin and Cora (Sellers) Davenport. James worked for 43 years at St. Gobain Glass factory in Marion and Dunkirk. He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church in Dunkirk. He was a teacher, trustee, treasure, and helped with music at the church where he will be sorely missed. James married Ann Hicks on March 8, 1969. Obituary Preview: On November 2, 2021, Richard Brooks Williams, loving husband of Lisa Wolford Williams and father of Jeremy Williams, passed away at the age of 54 surrounded by his loving family. Richard loved to work on cars and race stock cars - #22R, collect diving watches, miniature racing helmets, tennis shoes and his smell good cologne. Richard loved working at Superior Auto (…cars!!). He enjoyed his tenure as Captain of the Portland Police Reserves and he was extremely proud of his son’s military service. Richard is finally reunited with his mother, Phyllis Morris Williams, his father, Richard L. Williams, his mother-in-law, Anna Sipe Wolford and can finally meet his father-in-law, Charles

Wolford. We know that he is happy to see fur babies, Cookie and Zoë.

Richard would have wanted to leave us with the words of his favorite band, Pink Floyd – I have become comfortably numb. Richard, you will be missed.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp from 2005-2010 serving in the Iraqi Conflict and in Afghanistan. He obtained a degree from Bethel University. He was a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and a former police officer with Portland Police Department. He currently was a truck driver for TJs Express.

Survivors include his 3 sons- Tyler, Jayce and Lincoln Swoveland, and a daughter Willow Swoveland all of Berne, Indiana. He graduated from Bryant High School in 1955 and was a veteran of the US Marines where he served as an Embassy Guard at the United States Embassy in Rome, Italy. He retired from the US Post Office after working for many years as a letter carrier in Portland, Indiana. Eldon enjoyed fishing, gardening, train rides and spending time with his family. He also loved to spend time talking with his Marine friends about their service together. In his community in Centreville, VA he was well known for being a kindly neighbor who always helped others mow their yard and had time to visit and talk. Visitation will be held Saturday October 30th from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland, Indiana. He was a veteran of the US Army, volunteered for the Dunkirk Fire department, retired from Dunkirk Police Department in 2016, and was the Dunkirk Street Superintendent. Mike was a member of Temple Baptist Church and the Dunkirk American Legion Post 227. Obituary Preview: David Glen Clevenger, age 58, a resident of Pennville, passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021 at his home in Pennville.

David was born on October 6, 1963, in Portland, the son of Jesse and Carolyn (Milthaler) Clevenger. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. David married Lisa Hudson on July 6, 1991 and she passed away on June 1, 2020. Survivors include: 1 daughter: Britany Schlichter – Ft. Obituary Preview: Paul R. Martin, age 78 a resident of Portland passed away Saturday, October 9, 2021 at IU Health Ball Hospital in Muncie. He was a 1961 graduate of Madison High School. He retired in 2004 from Maintenance after 26 years at Jay County Hospital and also worked for Portland True Value. He attended Asbury United Methodist Church where he served the Community Thanksgiving Dinner for over 26 years. He was a veteran of the National Guard for 10 years.

Paul was very active in our community as a board member for Jay County Habitat for Humanity. He was a member of the Morning Optimist Club and was co-chairman of the Jay County Fair Queen Pageant for 25 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking. He taught CPR at Jay County Hospital for over 26 years.

Paul Martin was born October 31, 1942 in Portland, the son of Paul and Eva (Hathaway) Martin. He married Helen Shaver on May 1, 1971. Obituary Preview: Rodney Weesner, age 54 a resident of rural Dunkirk passed away Saturday, October 9, 2021 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie from Covid-19. He was a 1986 graduate of Jay County High School. Rodney owned and operated Hoosier Excavating and was a self-employed farmer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. and volunteered with the Jay County 4H. Rodney was a member of the United States Auto Club (U.S.A.C.) and enjoyed racing with the series.

Rodney Weesner was born January 25, 1967 in Portland, Indiana the son of Harry and Anita (Henthorn) Weesner. Obituary Preview: Merritt O. Bye, age 89, a resident of Portland, passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Merritt was born on April 19, 1932, in Portland, the son of Cecil and Iris E (Labig) Bye. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Teledyne Portland Forge in 1995 after 30 years of service. Merritt was a member of New Covenant Fellowship Church. Merritt married Mary Lu Bailey on October 18, 1953 and she passed away on May 19, 2016. He later married Dorothy (Reynolds) Watkins on June 9, 2019. She worked as a Pharmacy Technician at Walmart in Portland and Winchester for over 23 years. Judy enjoyed volunteering for the Republican Party of Delaware County for several years. She married Rev. Larry Supinger on May 29, 1982 and he passed away on April 5, 2010. Survivors include: 1 Daughter: Jeni Lynn Hummel (husband Gene) – Portland, Indiana 2 Sons: James Paul Stephenson, Jr. – Redkey, Indiana Joshua Lee Stephenson (wife Jennifer) – Albany, Indiana
