Do special teams scores count against defense? ›

However, Special Team's points still count against your D/ST score (i.e. a punt return for a TD against your D/ST).

Most fantasy football formats award fantasy points for yards gained by any offensive player. The most common format is 0.1 points per rushing or receiving yard, also displayed as 1 point per 10 yards rushing or receiving.

Every blocked kick is worth two points. Sacks, safety, and interceptions are worth two points each as well. Fumble recovery and forced fumble account for one point each. 10 points are given if the defense allows zero points.

Interceptions are treated as a negative, similar to any offensive player who loses a fumble. The range often is as little as -1 point to -4 points depending on how punishing you want it to be (-2 points is the most common and the likely default if you don't opt to tweak it).

Special teams are units that are on the field during kicking plays. While many players who appear on offensive or defensive squads also play similar roles on special teams (offensive linemen to block or defensive players to tackle), there are some specialist roles that are unique to the kicking game.

However, the defense can also score a touchdown if they have recovered a fumble or made an interception and return it to the opposing end zone. Special teams can score a touchdown on a kickoff or punt return, or on a return after a missed or blocked field goal attempt or blocked punt.

Differences Between PPR and Standard Scoring

In standard fantasy football leagues, points are typically awarded for touchdowns, rushing yards and receiving yards. However, PPR scoring adds an extra layer of complexity by rewarding players for each catch they make.

Standard games have the same scoring format available during league creation: Head-to-Head: Points. This is the most commonly used scoring format in fantasy football. In a Head-to-Head points league, your team plays against another team each week, per the league's schedule.

Point-per-reception (PPR) and half point-per-reception (half PPR) scoring systems are used in the majority of leagues today. PPR came first and changed the game for the better. Half-PPR is growing more popular.
