Summary[ | ]

Habitable Base (3)

The Habitable Base is a type of point of interest that can be occupied by the player on a planet's surface.

Creating a Base[ | ]

There are two ways a habitable base can be created:

  • A Base Computer is created by a player and placed in the desired location
  • An Unclaimed Base Computer can be found (it is procedurally generated by the simulation), and may be claimed by a player.

In either case, when a base computer is created or claimed, it is then used to begin the base building process.

Multiple bases can be built on the same planet, but only one base per player per planet will be shared online for other players. The player must go to the base computer and upload the base in order to share it. Most base building products require a Habitable Base to be built.

Finding An Unclaimed Computer[ | ]

An unclaimed base computer may be found by luckily coming across it while traversing the planet surface on foot, by starship in low flight, or in exocraft. The probability of coming across one this way is quite low, but not zero.

A slightly better way is to use Planetary Chart (inhabited outpost) to locate an inhabited structure. It may require many attempts as these charts will locate a variety of structures such as Observatory, Shelters and Minor Settlements, but there is a small chance to find an unclaimed base computer.

Limitations for Online Sharing[ | ]

Simulation experiments indicate that Star systems with more than 20 bases will likely not load all the bases for players to visit them. It appears from observation that there is an unverified limitation consisting of two elements:

  • Absolute number of bases to load from the servers (believed to be 32)
  • Absolute number of base parts to load from the servers (believed to be 16,000)

Thus if any combination of the above two conditions occur, then the number of bases presented to players will be less than the number of bases shown on the planet discovery pop up panels in the discovery menu for a star system.

It is observed that the more recently uploaded bases are populated first, to less recently uploaded until the above two limits are reached. However it has been observed that sometimes newly uploaded bases may not be visible in popular systems for a week or more. There appears related to some caching and filtering that occurs on Hello Games Discoveries servers.

Catalogue[ | ]

A catalogue of player bases can be found on the Player Base Catalogue page.
