News Release: Text-to-911

Indian River County Emergency Services / 911 Administration announced as of April 1, 2022, the Public Safety Answering Points located within Indian River County are capable of accepting Text – to – 911. The four major wireless carrier customers, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon, can now send a text (up to 140 characters) to 911 in an emergency. Text provides the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Speech Impaired communities' direct access to 911 services. Text to 911 should only be used in an emergency situation, when placing a call is not possible or when speaking out loud would put the caller in danger.

Statement of Function911 Administration is a division of the Indian River County Emergency Services Department. 911 is an emergency response service provided by Indian River County to assist the citizens and visitors of our county with receiving law enforcement, fire and medical assistance during crisis times. Our Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) telecommunicators operate designated emergency phone lines twenty-four (24) hours a day so that the citizens of Indian River County may receive help as expeditiously as possible.
