Parents Need to Know

Still not for young kids - several enemy designs are very disturbing, and it's still a game about madness and murder, but Evil Within 2 can be considered less shocking/provocative than the original and offers a more rounded experience.

This game is absolute nightmare fuel and is only suitable for adults. The Evil Within is an incredibly tense "survival horror" game with an emphasis on gore and gratuitous violence. The game is terrifying - often in a stressful way - and there's no way young kids should play it.

An absolute gorefest, with blood and organs staining the environment and killing monsters which is often bloody and intense. There's a lot of blood. There is a blood on the walls and the ground most of the time. Dead bodies can be seen on the ground, on some places they're hanged.

Depends on what people would find scary. For the most part it's very much like any other zombie game, but there are a few more "ghostly" encounters which have a bit more of a horror feel to them. Me too. It's got some legit freaky environments and encounters.

It's absolutely worth playing through the first game - both to have context for the sequel, and to experience its weird convoluted story. That said, you may or may not want to do it, and that depends on your tolerance to jank. Evil Within 1 is VERY janky.

You don't need to have played the first game to play the second. Some elements won't make much sense at first—like how our hero Sebastian Castellanos psychically travels to a supernatural mental hospital to get upgrades—but any confusion becomes easy to ignore once you uncover the setup.
