Why won t my Pit Boss smoker work? ›

If it stops working, the following components may be to blame: Extension cord: Check your extension cord for cracks or open wires to see if the connection is poor. If you find evidence of damage, you should replace the cord. Outlet: Verify that the outlet works correctly.

If the temperature is flashing on your control board screen, this means the temperature of the unit is below 150° F/65° C. It will flash like this upon startup until it is hot enough. It may also flash like this if the temperature has an extreme drop, indicating the fire is at risk of going out.

You might think that trapping the smoke in the grill is a good idea and will add smoke flavor, but instead it will cause temperature issues within the unit. The fire could even die out due to lack of air intake. Please keep these holes open and uncovered.

The default P-setting is P-4. On this setting, while using the SMOKE setting, the grill will feed pellets for 18 seconds and pause for 115 seconds. In most instances, you will want to keep the P-setting on the default. Raising the P-setting to P-5, P-6, or P-7 increases the pause time for the auger.

The NUMBER ONE cause of temperature issues is poor pellet quality. If you are experiencing temperature issues, always begin your troubleshooting by removing and replacing your pellets and vacuuming out any residual sawdust from the hopper and from the auger tube.

Place your hand near the air vent or register while your HVAC system is running. If you feel air flowing, the damper is open.

Most supply vents are adjustable. You can either open or close them by adjusting them. While closing just one or two air vents shouldn't cause any ill effects, it's best to keep most of the air vents opened. Closed air vents can lead to duct leaks, uneven temperatures, increased wear and tear and lower efficiency.

With a Pit Boss, you simply adjust your grill to the “smoke” setting, which will have you cooking at the optimal temperature for consistent smoke. To properly smoke on your pellet grill, you don't want to go beyond 250°F.

P is for pause. The higher the number, the longer the auger pauses. At P0 it turns on for 18 seconds and then off for 55 seconds. Every 1 higher P adds 15 seconds to the pause time so P2 is 70 seconds P3 is 85 seconds and so on.

Usually this happens when the grill lid is shut too soon after startup. You should start your Pit Boss Grill on smoke with the lid open for 10 minutes, which will help burn off any additional fuel built up during the startup process.

Dirty grills are one of the most common causes for not lighting. You need to make sure the electrodes are clean. Check the brackets and grates of the smoker grill. Have some patience and try again if the burner does not ignite.

Check for any obstructions in the chimney, firebox, or vents and clean them. Use quality fuel to maximize heat output in your offset smoker. Check seals on offset smoker for deterioration and air leaks that disrupt airflow and heat efficiency. Replace worn-out seals to create a tight seal and retain heat.

Electric Smoker Won't Turn On

Unplug and reconnect the thermostat by removing the cover plate located on the back of the smoker and try again. If that doesn't solve this issue the thermostat will need to be replaced. Refer to your Manual, on how to locate and replace the thermostat.
