Understanding Insurance

Let's make the process of finding health care coverage less complicated.

Which best describes your situation?

The Medicaid program for low income individuals and families is known as Medi-Cal in California. Providence participates in California's state program which offers medical services for children and adults with limited resources. Eligibility requirements for Medi-Cal are currently expanding. To check eligibility or for a list of participating physicians please go to www.dhcs.ca.gov or call 800-541-5555.

For seniors qualifying for Medicare, you may opt to purchase Medicare Advantage or a Medicare Supplement plan.Learn more about Medicare.

If you currently purchase a private health insurance policy on your own you have two options:

  • Purchase a plan through Covered California (Exchange).
  • Purchase a plan directly through a health insurance website or agent outside of the Exchange.

To learn more about Covered California, go to www.coveredca.com or call 866-252-9976.

Your employer may offer several options, including HMO, PPO, or other variations of these types of plans such as EPO or POS.
