Debug items are build/buy items mainly used as decorations or placeholder objects throughout the various worlds. They do not have any gameplay attached to them but can be placed in households like normal objects despite Sims being unable to interact with them.

Debug can include lamp posts, signs, rocks, trees, and more. There are base game debug items, but each DLC has its own set that players can use. There are thousands of debug items across all the Sim's content.

The only way to access debug items in The Sims 4 is to use a cheat. Cheats are a big part of the gameplay in The Sims, with a built-in cheat menu and a text box where codes can easily be placed. Players can use cheats regardless of whether they are playing on a console or computer.

Before using the debug cheat, players must enable cheats by opening the cheat box. To pull up the text box, do one of the following:

  • Hold CTRL + SHIFT + C (PC)
  • Hold COMMAND + SHIFT + C (Mac)
  • Hold all four triggers (Console)

From there, players must enter testingcheats true and hit Enter to lock in the command. The next step will be to type the debug cheats in the text box. The first debug cheat is bb.showHiddenObjects. This activates the Buy Debug Mode in the build/buy menu. Then, Simmers can use bb.showLiveEditObjects to unlock even more debug items.

Players can use the search bar in build/buy mode to make things easier and type in DEBUG to pull up all the items. They are bound to find something that adds a finishing touch or personal detail to their builds that isn't found in the general objects.

The Sims 4 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
