Tolls, Payments, and Discounts

Yes. All toll lanes are equipped to accept E-ZPass with the two far left lanes being E-ZPass only for cars and pick-up trucks.

The CBBT accepts cash, credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express), Google Pay, Apple Pay, and scrip. Please remember, all discounts require the use of E-ZPass.

Yes. All discounts offered on the CBBT require the use of E-ZPass. Please reference the toll schedule or call (757) 331.2960 for more information.

An E-ZPass Customer Service office is located within the Administration Building located at 32386 Lankford Highway, Cape Charles, VA. Office hours are 8 am – 4:30 pm, Monday thru Friday.

E-ZPass Vending Machines are located within each of the toll plazas, providing travelers the opportunity to purchase a pre-paid transponder after hours and on holidays. Cost is $35 and there is $20 in toll funds ready to use immediately. The additional $15 is released once the transponder is fully registered with Virginia E-ZPass.

No. The transponder must be in the vehicle at the time of travel.

All Virginia toll facilities, including the CBBT, accept E-ZPass transponders from the following states: DE, FL, IL, IN, KY, ME, MD, MA, MN, NH, NJ, NY, NC, OH, PA, RI, VA and WV. Additionally, the UNI pass from Florida is accepted not only in FL but all other 18 states.

No, the CBBT accepts cash, credit cards including Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover, and E-ZPass. Please note however, that any applicable toll discounts require the use of E-ZPass.

No, the CBBT does not accept online toll payments.

To meet the growing trend of information on mobile devices, VDOT has also introduced a 511 smartphone application. To obtain information pertaining to surrounding road conditions and traffic problems throughout Virginia as well as to download the app, visitwww.511Virginia.org and enroll for email or mobile alerts.

During inclement weather when the CBBT has certain wind restrictions in place, the District provides wind vans to assist with the transport of exterior cargo.

Services

The CBBT provides a scheduled drive-across service for those travelers who are fearful of traveling bridges and tunnels. 24-hour advance notice is requested. The customer is responsible for the one-way toll; however, there are no additional fees for this service.

Certain situations that are unique to the CBBT have required the installation of a gated system so that vehicles can be stopped if necessary. Learn More.

The scenic overlook, located on the southern tip of Virginia’s Eastern Shore, provides a great vantage point for camera buffs.

Emergency pull-offs are located across the facility for emergency use. Call boxes are located at each of these areas as well

Yes, you can make a scenic crossing. U-turn areas are located prior to each of the toll plazas.

RVs & Bicyclists

Yes. Maximum vehicle height permitted to cross this facility is 13’-6” and all propane must be turned off at the outside valve prior to crossing. Vehicle is subject to inspection at the toll plaza.

Please contact the Operations Division at least 24 hours in advance of your travel for further assistance. CBBT personnel will transport you and your bike across the facility. The cyclist is responsible for the one-way toll; however, there are no additional fees for this service.

Fishing Pier

The fishing pier was closed to the public in 2017 as preparations made way for the construction of a parallel tunnel at Thimble Shoal Channel. Upon completion of the tunnel (~2026), the fishing pier will be renovated and reopened to the public.
