Can I go through E-ZPass without my transponder in NJ? ›

Customers who do not have an E-ZPass tag will also travel through the toll point without stopping. The overhead cameras photograph the vehicle's license plate for processing. A toll bill is sent to the registered owner of the vehicle through Tolls by Mail.

If you don't have E-ZPass, an image of the license plate is used to send a Toll Bill to the vehicle's registered owner using the address on file with DMV. Toll Bills are mailed approximately 30-45 days after your first date of travel.

Even though both states are part of the E-ZPass system, they don't have reciprocal agreements when it comes to pricing. That means that if you want to use your E-ZPass in both states, you'll have to pay the full cash rate for any tolls you incur in the state you don't live in.

You may dispute the toll violations if you believe you are not responsible for them. What if I have an E-ZPass but I forgot it? Let's say you have an E-ZPass account but you forgot your transponder at home or in another car. In that case, the cashless tolling system will still bill your E-ZPass account if the license plate number of your car is registered under that account.
