Rarity 10 weapons are the most powerful gear in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. While they aren’t available during the main story, this high-level gear will be needed for post-game challenges. Having at least a few fully upgraded items will help with Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreaks super bosses.
While raw power is good, players should still pick the weapon and skill set that are right for them. It won’t matter how strong a greatsword or axe is if one still finds them too slow and cumbersome. This makes it extra important to hold on to all the crafting materials in Monster Hunter Rise and use them on one or two special weapons.

While Rarity 10 weapons are powerful, many monsters can still be defeated with Rarity 8 or Rarity 9 equipment. Casual players may be able to defeat several high-level monsters on their own or using Monster Hunter Rise Co-Op gameplay. Grinding for the ultimate weapons and materials are only needed for the toughest enemies.

Players will need to progress through the main scenario of Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak and defeat MHR Rank 5 boss Elder Dragon Gaismagorm at least once. This will allow basic equipment to be upgraded past Rarity 9 and into the new Rarity 10. However, many unique weapons will still need further Master Rank levels and ingredients to reach level 10. Thankfully, Gaismagorm will drop all the necessary materials to upgrade weapons made from their body parts. The most needed items for forging are Afflicted Materials, which drop from the following beasts:
- Afflicted Bone: Arzuros, Volvidon, Lagombi
- Afflicted Pelt: Great Izuchi, Great Baggi, Great Wroggi, Kulu Ya Ku
- Afflicted Blood: Tetranadon, Daimyo Hermituar, Bishaten, Khezu
- Afflicted Monster Bone: Aknosom, Royal Ludroth, Barrath, Basarios
- Afflicted Shell: Blood Orange Bishaten, Somnacanth, Shogun Ceanataur, Jyuratodus
- Afflicted Scale: Tobi Kadachi, Rathian, Anjanath, Pukei Pukei
- Afflicted Claw: Aurora Somnacanth, Goss Harag, Rakna Kadaki, Almudron
- Afflicted Fang: Garangolm, Magnamalo, Nargacuga, Barioth
Some of the monsters also roam in the base Monster Hunter Rise, allowing additional farming or reuse of old tactics. In most cases, the required Afflicted Material is used on weapons corresponding to the same defeated monster, though there are a few exceptions. Additionally, the chance of item acquisition is only 20%, so players may need to farm monsters multiple times to get the materials they need. Completing Monster Hunter Rise Anomaly Quests may also provide Afflicted Materials, but it is not guaranteed either.
As with other crafts, making the highest level weapons is done in the Smithy. Even if one isn’t ready to forge just yet it is a good idea to stop by this location early. Each weapon has additional normal reagents besides the Afflicted Materials. This may include coins, tickets, or other mundane items one may want to gather now. This can save time and some headache during the real upgrading procedure.
