OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (60)

Training your Strength Skill in OSRS is more than just about knowing which areas go to and which monsters to fight. You'll also need the right weapons for the job. Picking the right melee weapon means you'll be able to deal as much damage as possible but there are other factors that come into play.'

Best Strength Training Weapons In OSRS

Below is a list of all the best melee weapons you can use for Strength Training. These are listed from best to least effective. If you're wondering how we chose them, we've basically made the list depending on not just the damage of the weapon, but also its attack speed.

As a rule of thumb, weapons with the highest attack speed are best. For melee weapons, the best you can get is 4 which totals to one hit per 2.4 seconds.

You also need to keep in mind that some weapons can perform better or worse, depending on which monsters you're using them against. Monster weakness plays a role in how much damage you can deal.

      80 Attack

      80 Strength

      396,242,676

This weapon is rather situational because of Soul Stack. Each hit you deal with the axe gives you 6% Strength bonus which caps at 30%. To get the most out of your training, you'll need to have 5 Soul Stacks all the time.

For this, you'll need to train in areas where monsters come in huge numbers so that your stack remains consistent.

As this is one of the most expensive weapons in the game, it's harder to access as well.

It's also worth noting that you get damaged each time you use the axe so fighting against strong enemies isn't advised.

OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (62)
      82 Attack15,485,078

Due to the price of the Soulreaper Axe, a lot of players actually settle for the Osmumten's Fang instead. You can use this when going up against enemies with high Defense because of its passive.

If you're planning on training against weaker monsters, it's best to just use the Ghrazi rapier instead.

OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (63)
      80 Attack61,924,367

In most cases, a lot of players consider Ghrazi as the best strength training weapon. One of the reasons why is that it doesn't degrade so it's easier to maintain.

It's more expensive than Osmumten's Fang but since it's more versatile, it's a better choice for training overall.

OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (64)
      80 Attack307,607,764

This mace is basically the Crush version of Ghrazi. Just like that weapon, this doesn't degrade and it has a high Strength bonus.

This is the best weapon to choose IF you have the Inquisitor's Armor. With the set complete, you'll have access to a ton of Strength bonus. It's one of the fastest Crush weapons as well. It can also be effective against high-Defense enemies.

OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (65)
      80 Attack131,573,412

If you want a Slash version of the Ghrazi rapier and Inquisitor's mace, then this is the weapon for you. It has the same Strength bonus as both weapons.

Unfortunately, the weapon is not good for training due to the fact that it requires Crystal shards which you can get from Prifddinas. However, accessing the area requires Song of the Elves.

Unless you have access to crystal shards already, we highly suggest going for the mace or the rapier instead.

      75 Attack

      60 Magic

      89,569,552

Although it's not as strong as the weapons above, this is still an excellent choice once you're at level 75 Strength. It doesn't degrade as well.

If you're planning on training other combat skills, the Voidwalker can also earn you magic and Hitpoints XP.

OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (67)
      75 Attack2,568,226

The Abyssal tentacle can be higher on this list as it's a powerful and relatively cheap option. However, you're going to spend roughly 171 per attack when using this. Given that the weapon degrades after 10,000 hits.

Along with the price of the weapon, you're also spending 256,919 gold per hour.

You can't buy this weapon. You can only create it by combining your Abyssal whip and a Kraken tentacle.

OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (68)
      70 Attack1,712,797

A lot of players stick with the abyssal whip for training. Aside from being affordable, having mid requirements, and being non-degradable, it does solid damage as well.

It's highly recommended to use the Controlled attack style. It's more manageable than the others but it's a slower way to get to 99 Attack. The weapon is good overall as it can help you gain XP for Attack, Strength, and Defence.

If you're planning on creating a Pure or if you want to keep your Combat level to a minimum, then this isn't the best choice.

OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (69)
75 Attack3,997,820A pretty powerful weapon with a high attack. However, it's expensive and you're going to spend more as it degrades. The weapon will revert back to being a Saradomin's tear after 10,000 hits. You're effectively going to spend 25,347 per hour.
OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (70)

      70 Attack

      70 Strength

      13,928,670

The Abyssal bludgeon is the next best option to the abyssal whip when looking for weapons that don't degrade. It's a better choice when you're going up against monsters weak to Crush.

It's pricier than most weapons so other players avoid getting it. In our opinion, this weapon is something to pass on unless you have the complete Inquisitor's set.

With that set, you're able to get a decent attack and accuracy bonus, thus making this more worth it.

OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (71)

      70 Attack

      Barbarian training

      4,957,037

If the abyssal bludgeon is too expensive or is currently out of your reach, you can opt for this weapon instead. It's best used against monsters that are susceptible to Stab. Additionally, it has Crush bonus but it's not that worth considering.

The only upside to this is that you can use it on the defensive so it's a relatively safe weapon to use for training.

OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (72)
70 Attack3,548,327One of the best one-handed training weapons in the game right now. However, it has low damage and is only truly effective when you're going up against monsters weak to Stab.
OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (73)

      75 Attack

      75 Magic

      14,436,096

While this is a Magic weapon, you can still use the Staff of the Dead as a Strength training weapon. It has lower Strength than the Saradomin Sword but if you have a defender, you can raise its accuracy significantly.

It's great to use against high-defense monsters. If you're going for a Slash weapon, it's best to use the Abyssal dagger instead.

OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (74)
      70 Attack168,983

It's one of the most affordable Strength training weapons at the 70 Attack line. In fact, it's even more affordable than some in the 65 Attack area.

Because of its affordability and high Strength bonus at this level, a lot of players choose this as a weapon. It's best used against low-defence monsters however. In many cases, the Staff of the Dead is the better choice but considering the price difference, it's best to stick with the Saradomin Sword.

OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (75)
      65 Attack1,746,368

While relatively slow, the Zombie Axe is a good weapon against enemies that have high defence. It can also be used to effectively train against enemies that aren't good with Crush damage.

If you have the Inquisitor's set, you can make the Zombie Axe a more viable option. Aside from the extra damage, you're getting good accuracy as well.

OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (76)
      65 Attack239,291

Like most of the Crush type weapons in the 60-80 range, the Sarachnis Cudgel is only really effective if you have the Inquisitor's set on.

There are a lot of better weapons at this level including the Saradomin Sword and Staff of the Dead. It doesn't have a ton of damage potential. Still, it's a great choice once you build up Crush bonus and accuracy.

OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (77)
      60 Attack3,211,716

If you want to use the best weapon that's balanced when it comes to all attack styles, then this one is the best at this level. One of the best things about this is that despite being high-tier, you don't need to finish any quests to get it.

There's also no charging needed for the mace so once you've got it, you don't need to worry about anything anymore other than training.

If you want to get the most out of Viggora's Mace, you can still charge it up by using Revenant Ether. Doing this will increase your accuracy and damage by 50% but only against enemies in the Wilderness. Keep in mind that training in the Wilderness is risky so it might be better to just train elsewhere and not use Revenant Ether.

A good way to enhance this set is by using the Inquisitor's set instead. If sticking with the Revenant Ether boost inside the Wilderness, this weapon can be pricey to use, with the risk of dying being a part of your worries.

OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (78)

      60 Attack

      Monkey Madness I

      59,307

You're most likely going to spend most of your Strength training using the Dragon Scimitar. It's a powerful weapon on the three attack styles and it's cheaper than anything above as well.

The only downside with this weapon is that it';s only best used when you're solely training your Attack skill. If you want to train Defense at the same time, you're better off using the Abysssal whip.

OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (79)
60 Attack88,114This is a good alternative to the Dragon Scimitar. It's more expensive than the scimitar but on the other hand, it doesn't have a quest requirement.
OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (80)

      65 Attack

      55 Slayer

58,756This is one of the best weapons in the 5-tick category and it's only really outperformed by the Zombie Axe at its current range. Again, having the Inquisitor's set with this weapon will make training more efficient because of the increased damage and accuracy.
OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (81)

      60 Attack

      Lost City

58,969Monkey Madness is a long quest so getting the Dragon Scimitar isn't always easy. A good alternative to it is the Dragon longsword. It's slower than the scimitar so the damage output is considerably less by comparison.
OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (82)

      50 Attack

      55 Slayer

39,818At the level 50 Attack range, this is the best weapon to get but the also requires 55 Slayer. Only use this weapon if you're planning on training against Turoths and Kurasks.
OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (83)

      50 Attack

      50 Strength

506,020Very expensive at this level but is also one of the best weapons you can train with early on with the game. It's a powerhouse when you use this with the Inquisitor's set.
OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (84)
40 Attack502,566This weapon is considerably more expensive than the Rune Scimitar but is also more powerful thanks to its extra bonuses. Unless you're going to use this elsewhere or if you have money to spend, we suggest sticking with the rune scimitar instead.
OSRS Strength Training Weapons Guide (85)
40 Attack14,896It's a well-balanced weapon that's very affordable at this level. Believe it or not, lots of players use this weapon to train Strength up until they reach at least 70 where most of the best weapons are.
Other Scimitars-40 AttackIf you're level 40 attack of below, you can choose to train with any other Scimitars that are accessible to you. These weapons are well-balanced in all attack types so they're perfect for low level training.

      Alternative Training Gear

      1. Obsidian Equipment + Berserker Necklace:

This build is harder to build but it's actually worth the trouble considering that you're getting the most bonuses out of it. The Obsidian set alone will provide 10% damage and accuracy when you're using melee obsidian weapons. In that regard, you should focus on getting the Obsidian Sword as this is the best of all of them.

This build results in the best Strength training XP in the game. As for the method, it's best to go against low-defense monsters. Just be warned though that this set will be lacking when it comes to defensiveness.

      1. Void Knight Equipment:

Second to the Obsidian set is simply wearing a full Void Knight set., It has the same 10% bonus as the Obsidian set. The difference is that the Strength bonus of the Void Knight is far less so training with this will become significantly lower.

Still, that doesn't change the fact that the Void set is the best alternative if you don't have access to the Obsidian pieces just yet.

      1. Dharok the Wretched's Equipment:

The special effect of Dharok's set is that you can deal more damage the lower your HP is. At 1 HP, you can deal a lot of damage to opponents, thus making Strength training a lot easier. While risky, you can mitigate incoming damage at low health by using Protection Prayers.

Items like the Dwarven Rock Cake and the Locator Orb can also protect you from the set's risky gameplay. This is best used when you're in the Nightmare Zone.

      1. Guthan the Infested's Equipment:

If not Dharok'';s set, you can switch to Guthan's instead. This is the complete opposite of Dharok's set as instead of fighting at 1 HP, you can heal yourself occasionally. This makes Strength training less dangerous and less costly as you don't have to spend resources to heal.

In the case of Guthan's, it's best to use this set when you're planning on training for longer periods.

In terms of viability, both Guthan's and Dharok's set are excellent choices for Strength training. It only really depends on whether you're planning on a speedier but risky training, or a slower but relatively safer way of training.

      Extra Gear For Strength Training

Below is a list of other gear that you should wear to help make Strength training more proficient. Keep in mind that the items listed will be in order of their effectiveness. They're also not necessary but highly recommended.

      Head-slot items:
      1. Serpentine Helm
      2. Helm of Neitiznot
      3. Berserker Helm
      4. Obsidian Helm

Note: All four provide the same strength bonus, so choose based on other stats like defense or availability. For general training, strength-boosting helmets are superior to accuracy-focused ones.

      Cape-slot items:
      1. Infernal Cape
      2. Fire Cape
      3. Mythical Cape
      4. Obsidian Cape (if unavailable)

Note: Obsidian Cape can be used if others are inaccessible, but it won't boost damage significantly.

      Neck-slot items:
      1. Amulet of Torture
      2. Amulet of Fury
      3. Amulet of Glory
      4. Amulet of Strength
      5. Amulet of Power
      6. Amulet of Accuracy

Note: Bandos Chestplate offers better defense.

      3. Guardian Boots/Granite Boots
      4. Rune Boots/Climbing Boots
      5. Adamant Boots
      Ring-slot items:
      1. Berserker Ring (i)
      2. Berserker Ring
      3. Warrior Ring/Tyrannical Ring/Treasonous Ring

Note: Rings should be imbued for maximum effectiveness. The rings are completely optional and you don't have to wear anything if you don't have rings that can't increase Strength or melee damage. If you don't have these, get a Ring of Wealth instead so that you can profit off of training.'

Once you have your weapons, the next step is to train to level 99 of course. While there are many ways to reach that journey, here's an optimized route to consider. Keep in mind that this method is only best if you want to focus solely on Strength.

      1-10Chicken
      • 1 Combat
      • 3 Hitpoints

You can find chickens in Lumbridge, precisely east of River Lum. There are many in a place called Fred's chicken coop.

They're all non-aggressive so there's no need to waste potions or food.

The monsters provide very low XP per hit but it's still the best way to train at this point in the game.

No food is required for the fight and you can even get feathers that you can sell for profits.

Chickens can also drop bones for prayer training.

      10-60Ammonite Crab
      • 25 Combat Level
      • 100 Hitpoints

While relatively weak, Ammonite Crabs have a huge amount of health and defences, making them a safe and effective method to train Strength.

Ammonite crabs spawn in groups so training with them is easy and requires less effort. However, make sure to avoid getting stuck in a corner as it's easy to be swarmed by them.

To do this, you'll need to finish Bone Voyage first which is a lengthy but easy quest.

If you want to reduce trips for restocking or selling, make sure to get a bank chest inside the island first.

      Sand Crab
      • 15 Combat Level
      • 60 Hitpoints

These are basically the same monsters as Ammonite Crabs but are weaker. You can find them Crabclaw Isle, Crabclaw caves, and the beach near Great Kourend.

The crabs in Great Kourend are easy to access. The ones in Crabclaw isle will require 10,000 gold or at least completion of The Depths of Despair.

We recommend focusing on the ones at the Great Kourend beach though as there's a bank near Hosidius House.

      Rock Crab
      • 13 Combat Level
      • 50 Hitpoints
You can find these on Waterbirth Island or north of Rellekka. We suggest going to Waterbirth Island as it only requires 1,000 coins to access the area as opposed to Relleka which you'll need to do the Fremennik Trials.
      60-99Nightmare Zone MonstersVaries

One of the best ways to get to level 99 is by simply going to the Nightmare Zone. Many of the monsters here are weak to melee. You only need to adjust your gear depending on the damage style and weakness of the monsters.

You'll struggle a bit during your first initial runs as you combat level is still low. During these levels, make sure to have super combat and prayer potions to make the fight easier.

The only downside here is that you don't get any drops. If you're looking for profit, it's best to look for other strong monsters in OSRS.

      Slayer TasksVaries

If you don't want to do the Nightmare Zone, you can switch to doing Slayer tasks instead. This method is more profitable considering that many of the monsters have great drops.

Finding good Slayer tasks for slaying might be hard though as you'll need to do quests first. Another downside is that not all of the tasks allow you to use melee.

Alternative Method: Levels 60 to 99

      Monster: Yak
      • Location: Neitiznot
      • Combat level: 22
      • Hitpoints: 50
      • Requirements: Full completion of The Fremennik Trials

Fighting Yaks in Neitiznot has relatively good XP yields for training. The monsters aren't strong and they don't crowd in one place so there's less of a threat here. The downside is that there aren't any decent drops so you can't earn money while doing this method.

      Monster: Monkey Guards
      • Location: Marim
      • Combat level: 167
      • Hitpoints: 130
      • Requirements: At least started Monkey Madness I

If youre going to train using Monkey Guards, make sure to wear monkey greegree to avoid getting attacked on sight. While the monsters arent strong, its easy to get overwhelmed once they gang up on you. As theres a nearby altar, you can use as many Prayers as you want for the fight.

Just keep in mind that the guards dont have any drops. Make sure to bring anti-poison as well as there are spiders in the area which can also attack on sight.

      Pest Control
      • Location: Void Knights' Outpost
      • Combat level: Varies
      • Hitpoints: Varies

You can start a round of Pest Control as long as you have 4 other players with you. However, you can make the entire activity easier by having a max party of 25. As for the gear, make sure to bring your best Strength training gear. If anything, at least have Dharoks set.

It's easy to gain a ton of XP in Pest Control but the challenge itself is hard. The good news is that your Health, Prayer, and run energy are filled back after each round. Additionally, you can gain a good amount of gold per round so this is a lucrative way to train your Strength skill.

The downside is that this activity is only really viable as a training method if you have a lot of players with you. We suggest looking for groups online who are willing to train the same way. Queues for a match of Pest Control can be considerably long.
